| About the Upward Bound Program
This federally funded program serves academically needy high school students who are low income and/or first generation college students. Services are designed to help prepare the participants to successfully begin college and attain a college degree. Services include academic tutoring, mentoring, success workshops, field trips, and cultural enrichment activities.
We offer these services on the campus of Pueblo Community College during the regular academic year and during a six week summer program:

Tutoring in all subjects with a concentration on math, science and English

Career counseling

Academic advising

Academic courses for high school and college credit

Personal counseling

Workshops on numerous topics helpful to student academic and personal excellence

Cultural enrichment activities and events

Field trips to colleges and universities

Financial aid information and assistance in filling out forms

Opportunities for service learning experience

Academic courses during the summer
-
On campus College Bridge program for Upward Bound seniors recently graduated from high school

Monthly stipends for all participants during the academic and summer programs

So, if you are the parent of, or know of, a high school student in grades 9 – 11 who has the ability and desire to attend college, consider the advantages of enrolling in the PCC Upward Bound program.
Here are some more advantages of attending the Upward Bound program:

Individual tutoring support at the high school or at PCC

Free summer program to “jump start” academic performance in subject areas such as English, Math, Science and foreign language

Supervised “fun” activities that broaden horizons and explore possibilities including trips to colleges and universities across America

Transfer assistance to 4-year schools including a “bridge” program that will pay up to 6 credit hours of tuition and books

This enrichment program is a Department of Education grant activity and is free to students who qualify. To qualify, a student must:

Be enrolled or soon will be enrolled in a high school in Pueblo District 60 schools
-
Meet income guidelines
-
Be a first generation student (neither parent has not attained a Baccalaureate degree)
-
Be a student who has a desire to attend college
-
Have the academic ability to succeed in college
How to Apply
Application forms are available from high school counselors at each of the high schools listed above. Applications are also available at our Pueblo Community College campus office or you may click here , print out the application, fill it out and take it to your school counselor for completion.
