PROGRAM SERVICES
Early intervention techniques utilized for participant retention and success.
Academic Planning - Counselors/Advisors are available to help participants identify a program that is appropriate for them. The counselors/advisors develop an educational action plan for each participant in the program (including projected graduation date). Pre-registration appointments are highly recommended.
Academic Monitoring - TRiO SSS counselors/advisors update education plans every semester. Class schedules are reviewed at that time. If an advisor has a concern about what classes a participant is taking, the participant will be notified.
Progress Reports - Each semester the TRiO SSS office sends Progress Reports to participant's instructors. Participants will be notified by mail when the Progress Reports have been returned. Participants are encouraged to come into the office and review their progress reports.
Career Exploration - Career counseling is available for participants who need assistance in selecting a major.
FAFSA/Scholarship Application Assistance - Staff members can direct students to people who can help with submission of the FAFSA form. TRiO SSS counselors/advisors can provide feedback for finanical aid suspension appeal letters. They can also help participants organize the application packet for scholarships, provide feedback for essays and write letters of recommendation.
Personal Counseling - TRiO SSS offers short-term personal counseling. Long-term counseling may be referred to outside agencies.
Community Referrals - Staff members can help participants find resources in the community.
