Transferring?

If you are planning to transfer to a 4-year institution upon your graduation from PCC, then this is where you need to start!

This form is a checklist specifically designed to assist PCC students in the process of transferring to a 4-year institution of his/her choice. Please take the time to complete it. By using this form, you are securing your success in the transferring process.

___1.

During your attendance at PCC, be sure to meet with your assigned Faculty Advisor at least 2 to 3 times per semester.  Consistently working with your advisor ensures that you are taking the appropriate classes at the appropriate times.  Speak with you advisor if you have conflicts, need a tutor, or if you are feeling overwhelmed by ANYTHING in your college experience.

___2.

If you are a transfer student TO PCC, meaning you are transferring “prior credits” earned at another institution into PCC, please have your OFFICIAL transcripts sent to the PCC Records office upon your admittance.  UNOFFICIAL transcripts may be evaluated and used for registration (signing up for classes).  However, if PCC accepts those “prior credits,” an OFFICIAL transcript is required for your PCC records.  The longer you wait to submit your OFFICIAL transcripts, the more inconvenient it will be for you to register for classes in the upcoming semesters.

___3.

If you are interested in transferring and receiving your Bachelor’s degree, be sure to do the research.  Ask your Faculty Advisor the program/course of study you’ve declared, read and understand your program in the PCC College Catalog, and/or visit the Center for Academic Advising office to get an idea of which PCC programs transfer where and which PCC degree is right for you.

___4.

Visit the College Center or the Academic Building (the fountain area) when 4-year College representatives schedule visits to PCC to recruit students.  Be aware of flyers, the “FYI,” and “The Student Focus” for visit information.

___5.

Attend Transfer Fairs to speak to 4-year representatives and gather literature and transfer information from the schools that interest you.

___7.

During your last year at PCC take the time to schedule and attend campus visits/tours of the 4-Year colleges you are interested in attending.  Go to the Center for Academic Advising office for assistance in scheduling visits and tours at your college of interest.

___8.

While scheduling a time to visit and tour the 4-year colleges of your choice, also contact the appropriate departments to schedule a time and place to meet with your future academic/faculty advisors, or to explore what courses of study that institution may have that will benefit you.  At that time, it would also be wise to explore your options for scholarships, Work-study positions, housing, etc.

___9.

BY THEIR DEADLINE DATES: Complete and mail the Admissions applications and required documentation/essays with the appropriate fees to the 4-Year college(s) that interest you…you could also apply online.

___10.

When sending the Admissions applications to the 4-Year colleges, also send copies of your PCC transcripts and from any other college/s you’ve attended.  You may pick up an “OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT REQUEST” form in the Admissions & Records office.  Fill the form out and then turn the form into the PCC Admissions & Records office.  An OFFICIAL transcript will be sent from the PCC Records office to the Records office of the college you identified on the form.  You may use this same process if a prospective employer would like an Official transcript as well.

___11.

Most Colleges have events that take place prior to the first of the semester.  For instance, New Student Orientations, placement exams, ice breaker (getting to know you) events, open registration, etc.  Please be aware of these events and their scheduled times.  Call the institution or take the time to read the literature sent to you regarding their admissions process.

___12.

The March prior to your actual transfer to the 4-Year, complete and send in the Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA)…or better yet, do it online for a faster process.

___13.

About 4 months prior (example: for May graduation, you must apply by February 1st) to your expected graduation date from PCC, apply for Graduation with your Faculty Advisor…whom you should’ve been meeting with on a regular basis.

___14.

Don't forget to attend and walk in PCC’s Graduation Ceremony.  Accept your well earned degree and be proud of yourself!  It's a great accomplishment.

Take advantage of this check-list and good luck in your future!
