Introduction to Student Judicial Affairs

What is "Student Judicial Affairs" at PCC?
Student Judicial Affairs at PCC has three primary responsibilities: 1) educating students, faculty, and staff as to the student behavioral standards of the college; 2) consulting and supporting the campus community regarding due process protections; and 3) responding to alleged violations of the behavioral standards of conduct established for PCC students.

These responsibilities are outlined below:

  • Educate students, faculty, and staff regarding the rights and responsibilities of students
  • Consult with faculty, staff, and students on student behavior concerns
  • Conduct disciplinary hearings for students charged with misconduct
  • Participate in policy development or review related to student behavior
  • Participate in crisis consultation/intervention
  • Conduct training sessions regarding academic integrity, disruptive student behavior, and other topics related to behavior concerns
  • Make educational referrals for students needing support related to substance abuse, psychological issues, anger management, ethical decision making, domestic violence, and sex offenses

Who is responsible for Student Judicial Affairs at PCC?
The Vice President for Student Services, is responsible for student discipline at Pueblo Community College. In fulfilling this duty, she has designated Dennis Trujillo Johnson as the College Student Judicial Officer. It is Mr. Trujillo Johnson who oversees the Office of Student Judicial Affairs at PCC.

What is Academic Integrity?
Academic integrity is the basis upon which an academic institution stands. Academic integrity is more than just academic honesty, though honesty is crucial in any definition of academic integrity. Pueblo Community College values academic integrity and upholds the fundamental principles of academic integrity: honesty, trust, fairness, respect, and responsibility.

How is Academic Integrity linked to Student Judicial Affairs?
Acts of academic dishonesty are behavioral, not academic, violations and are subject to sanctions through Student Judicial Affairs. As part of its educational mission, the Office of Student Judicial Affairs sees itself needing to inform students of the principles of academic integrity, and to challenge them to uphold these principles.
