“It was a no-brainer to choose PCC.”

Steven’s passion for culinary arts was ignited as a child when he learned to cook by helping his mother and grandmother in the kitchen. He was able to get entry-level jobs after he graduated from Pueblo South High School but knew he could accomplish more.“It didn't take long before I realized if I wanted to move up the ladder in the industry, I needed a degree,” he said.

Pueblo Community College had the only culinary arts program in the region that was accredited through the American Culinary Federation, the largest professional chefs’ organization in North America. Decision made.As part of his studies, Steven landed an internship at Springside Cheese in Pueblo. He continued to work there after his 2016 graduation and in October 2018, he was named the store’s retail manager.“Without my ties to PCC, I would have never attained the job at Springside,” he said.
