India graduated from Canon City High School in 2017 with a 4.2 GPA and many college options. She chose PCC’s Fremont Campus.

Why? Among her reasons were ease of enrollment, affordability, available scholarships and the ability to get a head start on college credits while she was still attending high school. Thanks to those Early College credits, India will graduate with her Associate of Arts degree after only three semesters at PCC.

“So far, I have no student debt and I have guaranteed transfer classes that will apply when I go to university,” she said.

Her goal is to become an art teacher. She has had her work featured in PCC’s student art show and, through her drawing course, she met the director of the Fremont Center for the Arts, who offered her a job teaching children’s classes.

“If it weren’t for PCC, I would have never made that connection,” India said. “This experience is now a great reference I can put on future applications.”

She praises PCC for having instructors who are friendly, give clear instruction and promote class participation.

Her advice to other high school graduates? Take a close look at the opportunity that exists in your own back yard.
