Exercise Science
Health Promotion is the science and art of helping people evaluate their
lifestyle to move toward a state of optimal health. We define optimal health as
a balance of physical, emotional, career, social, spiritual, and intellectual
health. Lifestyle change can be facilitated through a combination of efforts to
enhance awareness, change behavior, and create environments that support health
practices. Giving Pueblo Community College students the opportunity to earn a
two-year degree in Exercise Science Health Promotion will prepare them for a
transfer degree to CSU-Pueblo and careers in a wide variety of allied health
fields.
What Will I
Learn
Students will learn how to develop, implement, and evaluate
programs to assist individuals and communities adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles.
They learn about principles of behavior change, particularly those useful for
helping individuals and organizations decrease the health consequences of risky
lifestyle behaviors, including but not limited to physical inactivity, inadequate
nutrition, high stress, and alcohol/substance misuse. They will learn the
science behind developing and evaluating programs designed to help individuals
and communities adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles while being encouraged to
develop creative solutions in the process.

Experienced Faculty
Pueblo Community College instructors will bring the most up-to-date
knowledge in the field of Exercise Science Health Promotion. Preparing the student to become a life‐long
learner, and provide the skills needed to contribute to a healthy lifestyle and
improve the quality of life for themselves and the people they educate.
Our instructors are committed to a positive hands on learning environment which
provides opportunities for individuals seeking a career in Exercise Science
Health Promotion. The curriculum is designed for those who are passionate about
optimal health of those individuals and communities around them.
Program
Requirements
Students must meet general admissions requirements. In order
to take any PAR-prefixed course, they must either have completed ENG 121 with a
C or higher, or be concurrently enrolled in the course. Students must have
successfully completed any required developmental courses in reading or writing
before taking any PAR-prefixed course.
