  • PCC cancels 2020 Senior Mini College

CAÑON CITY – Due to growing concerns over the COVID-19 coronavirus, the 35th annual Senior Mini College at the Pueblo Community College Fremont campus has been canceled.

The Mini College was scheduled for March 23-27 with more than 300 people expected to attend. However, because public health officials have identified people over the age of 60 as one of the groups most vulnerable to COVID-19, PCC leaders made the difficult decision to cancel the event.

“I know this is disappointing news. The Senior Mini College is one our counties’ best events. It represents our love of learning and celebrates the fellowship we all enjoy,” said Mark Peacock, executive dean of PCC’s Fremont campus. “But the health and well-being of participants will always be our top priority. It is our responsibility to do everything in our power to minimize the spread of the virus and ensure the safety of our community.”

PCC leaders are working closely with local and state public health agencies while monitoring the potential impact of COVID-19 on day-to-day activities at all PCC locations – Fremont, Pueblo, Mancos, Durango and Bayfield.

“We are paying close attention to our college environment and the communities and constituents we serve,” said PCC President Patty Erjavec. “Our emergency operating procedures are in place and the leadership at PCC is prepared to make quick decisions, if need be, to maintain a safe and healthy environment for our students, employees and community.”

PCC staff will begin the process of refunding student tuition and meal fees beginning today. Please allow four to five weeks for processing. Those with questions may call 719-296-6101.
