What happens during a counseling session?
Before the first session, you will fill out the Counseling Request form 641 (PDF file). This form allows us to compile statistical data which helps us determine the scope of our services, and helps us to justify funding. Our funding comes from federal, state, college and private sources. The client is never charged for these services. The data collected on the form is compiled, summarized and sent to the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade. No personal data is ever sent out of this office.
You will also be asked to sign the Client Rights and Responsibilities Form. This form defines the private nature of the relationship between you and your counselor. You are entitled to a copy of either or both of these forms. Ask the receptionist for a copy.
The initial session is scheduled for one hour. During that time, the counselor will discuss with you the nature of the assistance you are seeking, provide you with appropriate information, and help you develop an action plan to get you the results you are seeking. The action plan may include training courses (for which there may be a fee), consulting with other counselors or professionals, library research, writing business plan sections, etc.
