Pollution Prevention

The goal of this course is to review the importance of pollution prevention and demonstrate ways to reduce hazardous and non-hazardous waste in the workplace.

Objective

The student will learn the techniques and priorities for minimizing waste as defined by the EPA, as well as practical examples of waste-reduction techniques. OSHA’s Hazardous Communications (HAZCOM) Standard is discussed, and the student will be able to describe the elements of the Materials Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).

Who Should Attend

All employees, especially those who conduct opportunity assessments, to reduce waste generated by an organization.

Course Content

After completing this course, you should be able to:

  • Explain the necessity for pollution prevention
  • List the EPA P2 hierarchy
  • Define the purpose of the HAZCOM Standard
  • Recognize the format of an MSDS and describe its content
  • Identify waste reduction opportunities in your workplace
