Introduction to Defensive Driving

Transportation crashes are the leading cause of accidental deaths and injuries in the United States. Many businesses and agencies have recognized the direct benefits of defensive driving programs, not only in the number of lives saved and injuries reduced, but also in the decreased hospitalization costs, lost production time, vehicle down time, and insurance rates.

Objective

This course teaches basic defensive driving techniques for anyone driving a vehicle on public roads. Topics include identifying risky situations, finding methods to decrease the risk associated with driving, and being prepared for adverse conditions such as tire blowouts and congested traffic.

Who Should Attend

All drivers.

Course Content

This course teaches concepts and skills necessary to:

  • Identify your own driving behaviors
  • Use defensive driving techniques to help protect yourself and others from the risk of injury on the road
  • List the common dangers faced by drivers, and identify the safest way to respond to different dangerous situations
