Background: The U.S. Department of Labor – Employment and Training Administration awarded Pueblo Community College the President’s Community-Based Job Training grant for Advanced Manufacturing.  Working with local workforce centers, this project addresses the critical training needs for the manufacturing industry throughout Southern Colorado. 

TIERED TRAINING APPROACH

Work Readiness:  “First-timers” in the field will begin with discovering the tools to get a job and keep it.  Working at their own pace, participants learn the fundamentals to be “job ready”.  Current employees or those with extensive work history can complete an assessment to determine the individual areas to be addressed.  If an employer requests, employees can go directly the next level for manufacturing training.

Production Skills:  The Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC) certifies today’s “Industrial Athlete of the Future”  with training curriculum that prepares entry-level and current workers for a career in manufacturing.  Endorsed by the National Association of Manufacturers, this training covers five comprehensive training areas: 

      Employability Skills
Safety Awareness
Production and Processes
Maintenance Awareness
Quality Assurance

For all participants who successfully complete each module, they achieve the “Certified Production Technician” (CPT) award recognized throughout the US by leading industry employers including Harley Davidson, Cummins Inc. and Dow Chemical.  For more information about MSSC standards, visit their website at:  www.msscusa.org.  

Specialized Skills:  Participants learn specialized advanced hands-on training in key manufacturing skills:

      Welding – ARC or GMAW
Machining – CNC Operations
Electrical Maintenance
Mechanical Maintenance
Material Management
