A 19-year old recent high school graduate from a low-income family earns a full-transferrable associate degree while living at home and working on campus. A 35-year-old mother of 4 children studies to become an administrative assistant to support her family. A senior citizen takes a class to learn how to use a computer. A 45-year-old laid-off construction worker returns to college to change careers and become an EMT. A young Army veteran returns from deployment to take classes toward a criminal justice certificate. A group of county employees gather for a customized training for computer software. These students are a small representation of the diverse community needs that are met by the Fremont Campus of PCC.
For 30 years, Pueblo Community College’s mission of fostering higher learning, student success, and service to our communities has been extended into Fremont and Custer counties through the activities of the Fremont Campus (formerly the Fremont County Center). The campus offers students of all ages the ability to improve their lives through job training, transfer courses that count toward a bachelor’s degree, and personal enrichment opportunities. Students also build confidence through personalized attention, strong support services, and participation in campus life—helping them become productive citizens and successful in their careers. The campus also offers numerous community programs such as the Senior Mini College, the Summer Program and Learning for Advanced Students (SPLASh for K-8 students), the Cyber Senior Program, and the Alternative High School Diploma Program. Community colleges are vital to the economic health of a community, generating economic development through providing an educated workforce and providing crucial training for local business and industry. We provide guaranteed transfer programs for students seeking a bachelor’s degree, along with high quality career technical training programs, including a nursing program that boasts 90-100% pass rates on licensure and certification exams.
