Initial Checklist

  • Initial meeting scheduled to establish objectives and hours of mentoring needs.
  • Set up time line for regular meetings. Record time and complete tracking forms each semester.
  • Videotaping(s) scheduled.
  • Classroom observations scheduled.
  • Vocational credentialing requirements – Mentee contacts HR office for vocational forms – Lori Denney @ 549-3475 or Paula McPheeters @ 549-3484 CA 207. For information on Vocational Credentialing, visit the web site: www.coloradocredentialing.org/
  • Refer the mentee to his/her department chair regarding rate of pay and work schedules.
  • Become familiar with the advising process. Establish needs of mentee - give list of contacts for help and training.
  • Become familiar with the evaluation process - chair’s and students’ evaluation on mentee.

Mentor Support Services

  • Check if mentee knows department account number(s).
  • Check that department chair provided new instructor with syllabi, departmental materials, keys, handbook, catalogue, schedule, grade book, mailbox, email, SIS and online grading training, etc.
  • Review mentoring guidelines and suggested mentoring activities.
  • Support mentee during student advising – example: review VAX screens and advising notebooks.
  • Help mentee evaluate his or her instructional strengths and weaknesses.
  • Review the process of assessment of student learning.
  • Review college committees.
  • Contact your mentoring committee liaison for questions and help.
