Books and Periodicals
A single copy may be made of any of the following by or for a teacher at his/her individual request for his/her scholarly research or use in teaching or preparation to teach a class:
- A chapter from a book
- An article from a periodical or newspaper
- A short story, short essay, or short poem, whether or not from a collective work
- A chart, graph, diagram, drawing, cartoon, or picture from a book, periodical, or newspaper
This single copy may be used in following semesters or years.
Examples of permissible single copying might be:

A photocopy of a short editorial from the newspaper for use in a class.

A paper copy of two frames from a microfiche for a class.

Scan a photograph from a periodical to show a class how an earthquake is located by triangulation.

Scan one picture of a dress style from a book containing some 200 pictures of dress through the ages.
