Small Business Management, 13th Edition, by Longenecker, Moore, Petty, and Palich, Thomson Southwestern, 2006

 

SUPPLIES:

Pen, paper, notebook, calculator, and access to a computer for word processing and spreadsheet programs.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

COURSE GOAL:

This course examines the elements necessary for the successful formation of a new small business.  It is also designed to enhance the skills of those already involved in the operation of a small business.  The course includes the development of a complete business plan.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

 

(A)

The student will develop a business plan for a small business. The student will be active in this business or interested in opening this kind of business.

 

(B)

The student will be able to list and explain the different parts of the business plan.

 

(C)

The student will be able to accurately complete the business plan.

 

(D)

The student will be able to explain the ramifications of failing to develop and maintain a business plan in the small business.

Special Remarks:

1.

Attendance:  College policy states that students may be dropped from enrollment when absent 20% of the scheduled class meetings.  If enrolled from the beginning of the term, nine hours will usually constitute 20% of a three-credit semester course.

2.

Reinstatement:  Procedures are described in the Pueblo Community College catalog.

3.

Assignments/Missed Exams:  It is the student's responsibility, whether present or absent, to obtain all material presented and to complete all course assignments.  If prior arrangements are made or extenuating circumstances exist, makeup of tests may be allowed.  Late homework papers will not be accepted unless those same extenuating circumstances exist.

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:

 

Although teaching methods will vary from one instructor to another, some of the methods commonly used by instructors are: lecture, class discussion, group activities, special research activities, and the examination and evaluation of current, topical issues that relate the academic material presented in class to the realities of "real world" financial problems.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:

 

The very nature of higher education requires that students adhere to accepted standards of academic integrity.
