Career InformationCareer paths involving mathematics are extensive, and
include finance, engineering, computer science, cryptography, accounting,
statistics, and operations research. The Associate of Science (AS) Degree with
Designation in Mathematics prepares students to transfer as a junior to a
four-year institution in Colorado in order to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in
mathematics (BA or BS).
What Will I LearnThe most practical mathematics, such as basic counting
and measurement, have been human activities since the earliest recorded times. Since
then, mathematics has developed into a more systematic study of shapes and
motion. Today, mathematicians seek out patterns and use them to formulate new theories,
and mathematical reasoning helps to design models that can make predictions
about nature. The mathematics courses at PCC give students the key knowledge
and technological understanding necessary to succeed in those classes and
programs that feature mathematics as a prerequisite.
