Studies the physical and biological development of the earth through the vast span of geologic time. Emphasizes the investigation and interpretation of sedimentary rocks, the record of ancient environments, fossil lifeforms, and physical events, all within the framework of shifting crustal plates. ENVIRONMENTAL GEOLOGY

PRQ: REA 090, MAT 090, ENG 090, CIS 110, or equivalent assessment test scores. Introduces geology and its relationship to man`s environment. Covers geologic hazards such as floods, landslides, avalanches, earthquakes and volcanoes. Focuses on surface and groundwater resources in terms of exploitation and man`s responsibility to protect these resources from contamination. The geologic aspects of land use practices, as well as mineral and energy resource exploitation are reviewed and related to legislation regarding environmental law. |
