COURSE DESCRIPTION: Study of the principles of pharmacology and the pharmacologic properties and application of drugs commonly employed in the treatment of cardiopulmonary disease. 5. COURSE GOAL: This class is designed as a study of the principles of pharmacology. As well as pharmacologic properties and application of drugs commonly used in the treatment of cardiopulmonary disease. 6. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Attached 7. EVALUATION PROCEDURES: a. Final Exam -20% b. Module exams/ Quizzes Module exams will be given after each module. Quizzes may be given randomly-40% Questions will be of the recall, application and analysis type. Answering the questions will require not only a recall of memorized material, but demonstrating, in written form, a clear understanding of how technical considerations can be important in the clinical setting. Points awarded will be contingent on fulfilling both requirements. Since class attendance is a self-evident maxim, makeup exams will only be extended to those students who contact the instructor BEFORE THE CLASS to inform the instructor of an uncontrollable absence. Students failing to attend class and failing to contact the instructor will not be allowed the privilege of a makeup exam. Missed quizzes cannot be made up. In the event of a makeup exam, the test may not necessarily be the same given to the class; however, the content will always cover assigned readings. d. Drug Cards:-10% Students will be given a list of drugs that they are to look up and give the Chemical name, code name, generic name, official name, trade name, action of drug, adverse reactions and warning. These cards will be due back to the instructor on April 1st by 5:00 p.m. You will be deducted 20 points for every day they are late up to two days. After 2 days I will not accept them. These drug cards are worth 100 points and make up 10 % of your grade. e. Homework/Workbook/notebook -30% Homework will be assigned by the faculty. Workbook assignments will be given, however, we will occasionally work in the workbooks during class period. You are required to have your workbook in class with you. Assignments and workbooks are to be handed in by 5:00 p.m. on the day they are due as instructed by your instructor. You will be deducted 20 points off final grade for every day they are late up to two days. After 2 days I will not accept them. This includes weekends! A notebook is to be kept for this class. The notebook is to contain syllabi, notes, assignments and other information handed out in class. Each section is to be divided for easy access. You will be required to hand in your notebook during finals week. Grading: The grade for this course will be based on a cumulative total of points based on the items listed above. Grade Scale Score Range Letter Grade 100 to 93 A 92 to 85 B 84 to 77 C 76 to 69 D 68 to 0 F 8. SPECIAL REMARKS: 1. The student is expected to meet with the instructor if he/she does not understand the material. 2. Failure to pass this class with a 77% or above will result in the student being placed on a probationary status for the remainder of the program, and will be required to adhere to the probation guidelines. A student earning below 77% in this class not be allowed to enroll in the clinical internships, and remediation requirements will be outlined in the probationary Plan of Action. 3. The student is expected to spend 2-3 hours per credit hour preparing for class and reading the assignments. 9. Therefore, Pueblo Community College has adopted a policy of academic conduct as described in the Student Handbook. Violation of academic integrity may be defined to include the following: cheating, plagiarism, falsification and fabrication, abuse of academic materials, complicity in academic dishonesty, and personal misrepresentation. It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of the behaviors that constitute academic dishonesty.
