SPECIAL REMARKS

1.

Attendance: The attendance policy of the Respiratory Care Program will be the same as the Pueblo Community College’s, with the following additions:

2.

Tardy policy: Please refer to the Respiratory Care Handbook.

3.

All performance exams will be given as indicated above.  Since most of the performance exams are given on VISTA/WEBCT, and remain open for several days, the only time a student will be allowed to make up a missed exam is if the student submits a doctor’s excuse or documentation showing the reasons why the exam was missed.  If a student is unable to take an exam because of Internet disruption he/she is to contact the instructor. If it is after 5:00 p.m. or on the weekends the student is to contact the instructor through the VISTA mail box. If the problem occurs during campus hours, M-F 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., the student can call the instructors office.

All quizzes will be randomly administered. Since class attendance is a self-evident maxim, makeup quizzes will only be extended to those students who contact the instructor before the class to inform the instructor of an uncontrollable absence. Students failing to attend class and failing to contact the instructor will not be allowed the possibility of a makeup. It is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements for the quiz.  The quiz must be made up within 48 hours

Assignments: Late assignments are not accepted.  All assignments, unless specified by the instructor, are to be submitted through VISTA/WEBCT. Assignments are given in advance, and students are given several day’s to submit the assignment.  If a student is unable to submit the assignment because of Internet disruption he/she is to contact the instructor. If it is after 5:00 p.m. or on the weekends the student is to contact the instructor through the VISTA mail box. If the problem occurs during campus hours, M-F 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., the student can call the instructors office.  DO NOT E-MAIL the assignments through the mail box unless the instructor specifies differently. They will not be accepted.

4.

The student is expected to meet with the instructor if he/she does not understand the material.

5.

An earned grade less than 77% is considered failing.  If a student earns a grade less than 77% on an exam, quiz, assignment, he/she will be given one chance to raise the grade. How this will be done will be at the instructor’s discretion.  The highest grade that will be given for any make-up will be 78%.  Only one quiz, exam or assignment can be re-taken during the semester.

6.

The student is expected to spend 2-3 hours per credit hour preparing for class and reading the assignments.

8.

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:

To be successful in this course, students are expected to participate in discussions, readings, in-class writing, and peer review activities. The instructor may assign point values to such activities.

9.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:

The very nature of higher education requires that students adhere to accepted standards of academic integrity. Therefore, Pueblo Community College has adopted a policy of academic conduct as described in the Student Handbook. Violation of academic integrity may be defined to include the following: cheating, plagiarism, falsification and fabrication, abuse of academic materials, complicity in academic dishonesty, and personal misrepresentation. It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of the behaviors that constitute academic dishonesty. Sanctions for violating the standards of academic integrity may include warning, probation, suspension, and/or failure of the course or assignment at the discretion of the instructor.
