Attendance in clinical area: |
A very important part of the student's success in radiology, both before and after graduation, concerns his or her ability to assume responsibility for appearing promptly at the correct time, day and place to perform clinical duties. This area will be watched closely by your clinical instructor, using your time card for accurate evaluation. |
A minimum of 315 clinical hours are required. |

4 days absence (unexcused)-suspension from the clinic |
On the fourth day of absence the student will be suspended from the clinic. If the student wishes to be reinstated a petition must be examined as to his/her clinical competency by means of written and practical test in clinical procedures. |
Suspension from the clinic will result in an "F" grade for clinical attendance. Upon reinstatement, the review committee will determine the percentage score for attendance not to exceed 60%. |
Tardiness in excess of two times per semester will result in your clinical attendance grade average being lowered by 1 point, plus 1 point for each additional two tardies. |
ABSENCES: |
All absences must be reported fifteen minutes prior to start of shift at the affiliate where the student is assigned. All absences will be made up as scheduled by the clinical instructor. |
Any absence not reported will be considered as an additional absence and an additional make up. |
No Clinical credit will be given for unscheduled hours. |
NOTE: |
Excused absences are those in which the student provides an authorized written excuse to the instructor no later than one week after the absence. After that time period it will not be accepted. (i.e., physician, court appearance, car towing bill, car repair bill, etc.) |

NOTE: |
A student who does not complete 20 competencies will get an Incomplete grade for the semester. The grade will be changed the following semester whenever the student completes the 20 competencies. Students must be aware of the fact that an Incomplete grade may affect their GPA necessary for scholarships, grants, financial aid, etc. |

90% Radiographic Film Examination: |
Three Radiographic Film evaluations are required, any less number of exams will result in an "F" grade. |
The exam presented must be passed with 90% accuracy or the exam will be disqualified. |
The three grades will be averaged for a final grade in this area. |
No more than two (2) exams in one body area to include: upper extremity, lower extremity, spine, skull, contrast studies. |
The student and the instructor will critique the "90%" radiographic film examination. |
A minimum acceptable grade for a course in your major is a "C". |
Any student reporting to the clinical affiliate who is not dressed according to the student dress code will be sent home immediately. The time missed must be made up. On the third occurrence the student will be suspended form the clinic until the student can prove that he/she can follow the dress code. |
CLINICAL COMPETENCY OF EXAMS |
Students are required to perform exams and these exams are to be evaluated on request of the student by a technologist or clinical instructor. The student must perform the exam and set the technical factors in order to prove competency (phototiming is acceptable). At any time during the exam if a technologist or clinical instructor observes the student doing something that will cause the exam to be repeated, the evaluation is terminated. (i.e., Setting a technique of 10 mAs instead of 1 mAs for a finger, forgetting to center the bucky tray to the CR, angling cephalic instead of caudal.) |
No set number of exams are required for this semester; however, the student understands that the clinical competency book must be completed by the end of the program in order to fulfill graduation requirements. (Projections that no longer are performed will be excluded.) |
If exams are not available in the x-ray department, the student will be able to simulate the exam in the clinic. The clinical instructor will evaluate the exam and the estimated technique to be used. NO MORE THAN 6 EXAMS CAN BE SIMULATED. The student must make every effort to check off competencies on patients. |
The exams must be passed with a minimum of 75% accuracy and in a reasonable amount of time (not to exceed 2.5 minutes per projection) to prove competency. |
