COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 

 

PRQ: Program Admission, RTE 101.  Introduces fundamentals of radiographic positioning including use of radiographic equipment and safety, positioning, terminology, anatomy, pathology, and skills necessary to perform radiographic procedures of the chest, abdomen, upper extremity, shoulder girdle, lower extremity and pelvic gridle.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

 

The student will be able to:

 

A.

Define basic radiographic terminology, identify and describe body positions, projections, basic radiation protection guidelines, and preparatory and procedural steps for  radiologic procedures

 

B.

Identify and locate topographic anatomic structures and landmarks of the upper and lower appendicular skeleton, thorax and abdomen

 

C.

Describe the characteristic features of the four body habiti, identify regions and zones, anatomic planes and lines of the abdomen, locate and describe the major cavities of the thorax and abdomen

 

D.

List and describe the standard and supplemental projections and anatomy demonstrated in radiography of chest, abdomen, upper limb, shoulder girdle, lower limb, and pelvic girdle

 

E.

Perform in the energized laboratory, with a minimum 75% accuracy, Procedure and Image Evaluations from the Radiography Procedure and Competency Manual  as assigned by the instructor and evaluate the radiographic quality of the films, determine if modifications in technical factors or positioning are necessary, and effect those modifications

 

F.

Identify anatomical features and gross pathology on selected radiographs

Special Remarks:

All work must be completed on time. Late work will be reduced by one letter grade (8%). Absences in excess of 20% of class contact hours may result in the student being dropped from the course through the administrative withdrawal procedure. The minimum acceptable grade for a course in this major is a "C".

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:

 

To be successful in this course, students are expected to participate in discussions, readings, in-class writing, and peer review activities. The instructor may assign point values to such activities.
