Psychiatric Youth Care Worker

The Psychiatric Youth Care Worker certificate program prepares students for careers in psychiatric youth treatment settings.  Upon completion of the program, students will have met the minimum state employment requirements.

Program Description

The Psychiatric Youth Care Worker program is skill-based training in topics related to children and youth.  By learning various teaching techniques and practical application within the program, students can they apply them to given situations and effectively deal with the problems of youth in their care.

Clinical agencies used during the program require that students successfully complete a drug screen and background check.

Program Requirements

Entrance requirements: Prior to enrollment in the one semester program, students must complete any developmental courses as indicated by the results of the PCC Basic Skills Assessment Test.  Due to state requirements, graduates must be 21 years of age upon completion of the program in order to be job eligible.

Graduation requirements: Successful completion of PTE 100, PTE 101, PTE 103, PTE 270, PTE 271, PTE 272 and PTE 289.
