Jan Lewis is full-time nursing faculty at PCC, and was appointed coordinator of the Psychiatric Technician Program July 2007. She holds a master’s degree in psychiatric/mental health nursing from Case Western Reserve University. Jan taught nursing, served as college’s first Service-Learning Coordinator, and then chaired the Practical Nursing and Psychiatric Technician Programs at PCC between 1993 and 2000. She returned to campus in 2006 after working for six years with the Nurse-Family Partnership, a nationwide home visitation program for first-time, low-income mothers. Jan recently authored a mental health guidebook for nurses who work with the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP), and an article in the November 2007 American Journal of Nursing discussing recruitment and retention of nurses for NFP. Jan’s other experience includes three years with the American Psychiatric Association in Washington, DC, and six years in Africa teaching nursing and working with Nurses’ Christian Fellowship International. She has a strong interest in cross-cultural medical and anti-poverty work and makes yearly trips to Haiti to support efforts in these areas.
