TEAS - Test of Essential Academic Skills |
You will be required to complete the TEAS test and submit your printed results with your Letter if Intent (application form). The TEAS can be taken in the PCC Testing Center and costs $35.00. To schedule your test, call the Testing Center at (719) 549-3091.
This entrance test strives to academically support you by providing diagnostic information about your basic academic processing skills. The test will identify your areas of weakness which will be necessary for success in nursing school. If you do not meet or beat the national average scores on Reading and Math, remediation is required prior to entrance to the Nursing Program. Documentation of successful remediation will be required to attend nursing program orientation.
The TEAS consists of four sections, Mathematics, Reading, Science, and English and Language Usage. A review of basic concepts and theories in each area is recommended.
· Reading – paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension, and inferences/conclusions (40 items, 50 minutes)
· Math – whole numbers, metric conversion, fractions, decimals, algebraic equations, percentages, and ratio/proportion (45 items, 56 minutes)
· Science –science reasoning, science knowledge, biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, basic physical principles, and general science (30 items, 38 minutes)
· English and Language Usage – punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, contextual words, and spelling (55 items, 65 minutes)

The TEAS Test is available by appointment at the Pueblo Community College Testing Center (719-549-3091). The test can take up to 3 hours to complete, so you must begin the test at least 3-hours before closing time. Payment ($35) for the TEAS Test can be made at the Testing Center, or at the Cashier Office. If you pay at the Cashier, you must present your receipt in order to take the test. If you have taken the TEAS at another school, please keep a copy to provide to the nursing department. Results are valid for 2 years.
Currently, the TEAS includes 170 scored multiple-choice questions divided into four subsections: Mathematics, Reading, Science, and English and Language Usage.
Calculators are NOT allowed during the TEAS.
If you have taken the computer-administered TEAS®, your scores are available immediately after the examination.
Test scores will not prohibit admission to the nursing program, however, if scores equal to or greater than the National Average in Math and Reading are not achieved, you must complete documented remediation before attending nursing program orientation.
