6. RESOURCES: TEXT: The Reflexology Atlas, Kolster & Waskowiak
SUPPLIES: Notebook, colored pencils, washable (non-permanent) markers, cornstarch baby powder 1.5 ounce (any brand as long as 1st ingredient is cornstarch and NO TALC )
7. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Teaches the student foot anatomy, basic hand stroke and foot reflex points.
8. COURSE OBJECTIVES:
I. Demonstrate an understanding of the history of reflexology.
II. Analyze the anatomy and physiology of the foot.
III. Describe proper hand hold techniques utilized in reflexology.
IV. Practice several reflexology techniques
Unit Objectives:
To enable the student to
a) Understand basic concept of reflexology and zone therapy.
b) Identify reflex zones for organs and body structures in the foot, hand, ear and head.
c) Administer reflexology massage to the feet, hands, ears and head.
d) Understand how to administer reflexology massage to the feet, hands, ears or head to alleviate common ailments.
e) Understand the basic concepts and techniques used in Shiatsu.
f) Administer a basic Shiatsu massage to all regions of the body.
9. EVALUATION PROCEDURES:
Final grade for this course will be determined by a combination of exams, quizzes, projects and homework assignments. These items may be weighted differently.
GRADING SCALE:
All Health Professions certificate and degree programs use the following grading scale: 93 - 100% = A 69 - 76% = D
85 - 92% = B 0 - 68% = F
77 - 84% = C
Special Remarks:
- College policy states that students may be dropped from enrollment when absent 20% of the scheduled class meetings. Reinstatement procedures are described in the PCC catalog.
- Students should refer to the Massage Therapy Student Handbook for details regarding attendance, tardy and make-up policies for MST curriculum courses.
- It is the student’s responsibility, whether present or absent, to obtain all material presented and to complete all course assignments. If prior arrangements are made or extenuating circumstances exist, makeup of tests/quizzes may be allowed. Late homework/projects will not be accepted unless those same extenuating circumstances exist.

- Longitudinal/horizontal zones
- Bones of foot/ankle
- Foot reflex zones
- Foot arches
- Limitations, contraindications of reflexology
- 11 Golden rules of reflexology
- Hand reflexology
- Ear reflexology
- Head reflexology
- Shiatsu
Note: Class schedule and course content are subject to
change at the Instructor’s discretion.
11. METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:
To be successful in this course, students are expected to participate in
- Class activities (includes massage exchanges)
- Class discussions
- Homework assignments/Projects
- In-class reading and writing assignments
Students are required to bring all learning materials, supplies and appropriate clothing to every class meeting.
12. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
The very nature of higher education requires that students adhere to accepted standards of academic integrity.
