7. EVALUATION PROCEDURES:
1)  Quizzes are taken through WebCT . . . . . . . . . . . .  .  . . . . . . .   50%
Quizzes will be taken at home on a computer or in the school lab if you do not have a home computer.   All quizzes will be completed using WebCT.

Each unit quiz has 20-30 questions.  Definitions will be given and student must spell the answer correctly.  Abbreviations will be included on each quiz.

Each quiz can be taken twice if desired.  The two scores will be "averaged."  Quiz questions are randomized.  You may not get the same questions on the second attempt.  Study again before you attempt the second try.

The CD in the back of the text should be practiced before the student takes the chapter quiz.  The CD is a great tutorial, especially the crossword puzzle, fill-in-the blank, and multiple choice options.

Tests/quizzes are timed.  The time is specified in WebCT under the title of the quiz.

Tests/quizzes may not be taken late.  If you miss a deadline, contact the instructor through the WebCT email tool.  Test dates are specified in WebCT under the title of the test/quiz.

Due dates for quizzes are listed in WebCT on the calendar.

Click on Quiz on the side bar to get a listing of quizzes.

Some of your quiz questions get marked wrong by WebCT.  They may be "acceptable" answers.  If you feel you would like the instructor to review the question(s) marked wrong, simply email the instructor the question number you would like reviewed for the teacher to go in and give credit for the answer.  This happens fairly often.  Students often think of very clever answers.  You will not get the point added back to your score though unless you advise the instructor.

The student must communicate this information to the instructor through the Email Tool in WebCT if you want some of your questions manually graded.

2) Midterm . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .   25%
A  test will be given covering Units 1 through 9.   No retest is available for the midterm!
3) Final examination . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .    25%
A 100 question test covering the book will be given.  No retest is available for the final. The test will include some abbreviations and fill in the blank and a variety of question types.

STUDY HELPS:

  1. Make flash cards for yourself with words or word parts on one side and meanings on the other.  Be sure you include clues on pronunciation.  Make them small enough to carry with you in your pocket or purse.

  2. Arrange uninterrupted study time daily, free from family demands and friends.

  3. Take study materials with you to all types of places.  You never know when you may have to wait and that will create an opportunity to study.  Paste some on your dash of your car.....study as you drive.

  4. Make a short list of words and tape them above the kitchen sink and study as you fix meals and do dishes.  Do the same in the bathroom when you shave or fix your hair.  Short, constant review of medical words helps lots.

  5. Put a recorder in your car and listen to the cassettes when you are driving to and from school or to the store.

  6. Study with someone else regularly.  Pronounce words to each other.  Share notes and mnemonic devices.

  7. Use colors--prefixes in one color, roots in a different color, suffixes different too.  Sometimes you remember what color the word part is on.

  8. Overnight cramming produces confusion, anxiety, and poor learning.  Study several times over several days before taking a test.

9. METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:
This course requires using a computer to view demonstrations, lecturers, and to practice tutorials diskettes.  Assignments, grades, email,  and handouts will be in WebCT.  The examinations will be delivered through WebCT.
10. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
The very nature of higher education requires that students adhere to accepted standards of academic integrity. Therefore, Pueblo Community College has adopted a policy of academic conduct as described in the Student Handbook. Violation of academic integrity may be defined to include the following: cheating, plagiarism, falsification and fabrication, abuse of academic materials, complicity in academic dishonesty, and personal misrepresentation. It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of the behaviors that constitute academic dishonesty. Sanctions for violating the standards of academic integrity may include warning, probation, suspension, and/or failure of the course or assignment at the discretion of the instructor.
11. ADA NOTICE:
Students who have a documented disability may be eligible to receive accommodations for this class. Please contact the Disability Resources Center at 549-3446 for further information.
