1. TITLE OF COURSE: CLINICAL PRACTICE OF DENTAL HYGIENE III

3. PREREQUISITES: Successful progress in DEH 270
4. RESOURCES NEEDED:
TEXTS: Wilkins, Esther M., Clinical Practice of the Dental Hygienist, 9th Ed.
Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2005. .
SUPPLIES: Clinical Instruments and supplies as approved and purchased during
first year. Maintained and restocked as needed for most efficient
use. Only Dental Hygiene Program-approved equipment may be
used in the dental hygiene clinic.
5. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Continues patient care session with emphasis on attaining a level
of competency and efficiency for successful performance in clinical
board exams and private practice. Focuses on clinical skill
development in tobacco cessation, product selection, patient
communications, curettage and special topics developed patient
treatments. Provides elective extra-mural clinical sites for additional
practice.
6. COURSE OBJECTIVES: A detailed list of course objectives will be given at the beginning of the
first class.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:
Attendance is expected in all classes and is required in all dental hygiene classes (didactic,
laboratory and clinic). It is the student’s responsibility to arrive on time and be prepared for the
class. The attendance policy of the Dental Hygiene Program will be the same as Pueblo Community
College’s with the following additions:
· Any absence must be reported to the program secretary by 8:00 by 8:00 AM.
· If any absence occurs during a scheduled test or examination, the student will be
required to complete the said exercise within one week of the original date.
The makeup test must be scheduled with the course instructor.
· Extended absences for whatever reason will be dealt with on an individual basis.
· In the event of an absence, the student will be required to make up class time
with an appropriate assignment as designated by the course faculty.
Clinic time cannot be made up.

The very nature of higher education requires that students adhere to accepted standards of academic
