1.         TITLE OF COURSE:                CLINICAL PRACTICE OF DENTAL HYGIENE III

 

2.         PREFIX / NUMBER:                DEH 271                      CREDIT HOURS:  6 

3.         PREREQUISITES:                   Current Enrollment in the Dental Hygiene Program

 

4.                   RESOURCES NEEDED:

                                                           

TEXTS:                        Wilkins, Esther M., Clinical Practice of the Dental Hygienist, 9th Ed.

                                    Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2005.                               .

 

SUPPLIES:                  Clinical Instruments and supplies as approved and purchased during

                                    first year.  Maintained and restocked as needed for most efficient

                                    use. Only Dental Hygiene Program-approved equipment may be
                                    used in the dental hygiene clinic.

 

5.                   COURSE DESCRIPTION:

                                                            Continues patient care session with emphasis on attaining a level 
                                                            of competency and efficiency for successful performance in clinical
                                                            board exams and private practice. Focuses on clinical skill

                                                            development in tobacco cessation, product selection, patient

                                                            communications, curettage and special topics developed patient

                                                            treatments. Provides elective extra-mural clinical sites for additional

                                                            practice.

 

6.                   COURSE OBJECTIVES:        A detailed list of course objectives will be given at the beginning of the

                                                           first class.

               ATTENDANCE POLICY:  
              

Attendance is required in all dental hygiene classes (didactic, laboratory and clinic).  It is the student’s responsibility to arrive on time and be prepared for class.

 

The attendance policy of the Dental Hygiene Program will be the same as Pueblo Community Colleges' with the following additions:

 

§  Any absence must be reported to the program administrative assistant by 8:00 a.m. Absences and tardies are tracked by the administrative assistant.

§  If any absence occurs during a scheduled test or examination, the student will receive an automatic zero (0).

§  Extended absences for emergency circumstances will be dealt with on an individual basis.

§  More than two absences will result in the lowering of a full letter grade.

§  Three or more tardies are equal to one absence.

§  If 20 percent or more of a lecture or laboratory class is missed, the student will receive a failing grade.

Missed Clinics Cannot Be Made Up   

            

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:    

            The very nature of higher education requires that students adhere to accepted standards of academic  

            integrity. Therefore, Pueblo Community College has adopted a policy of academic conduct as

            described in the Student Handbook. Violation of academic integrity may be defined to include the

            following: cheating, plagiarism, falsification and fabrication, abuse of academic materials, complicity in

            academic dishonesty, and personal misrepresentation. It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of

            the behaviors that constitute academic dishonesty. Sanctions for violating the standards of academic

            integrity may include warning, probation, suspension, and/or failure of the course or assignment at the

            discretion of the instructor.
