1. TITLE OF COURSE: ADVANCED DENTAL HYGIENE THEORY
  PREFIX/NUMBER: DEH 259 CREDIT HOURS: 2
2. PREREQUISITE: Currently enrolled in the Dental Hygiene Program
3. RESOURCES NEEDED:
   
TEXT: Darby; Walsh; Dental Hygiene Theory and Practice 2nd Edition, Saunders, 2003.

Wilkens, Clinical Practice of the Dental Hygienist, 9th edition, Lea and Febiger, 2005.

SUPPLIES: None
4. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Focuses on the care of patients with special needs (such as physical and mental disabilities and systemic conditions).  Emphasizes patient management and treatment considerations.
5. COURSE GOAL: To provide the knowledge needed to treat a wide range of special needs patients, who require modification of routine dental appointment procedures.
6. COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Students will be given a detailed list of course/instructional objectives on the first day of class.

Special Remarks:
A. Attendance:  Will be required for all classes with more than two absences resulting in the lowering of the final grade by grade level.
B. Tardy Policy:  A student who is late three times (enters classroom after instruction begins) or leaves early (before instruction is over) will be charged with one full absence.

9. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
The very nature of higher education requires that students adhere to accepted standards of academic integrity.
