1.       TITLE OF COURSE:        NITROUS OXIDE AND OXYGEN SEDATION

          PREFIX/NUMBER:         DEH 138        CREDIT HOURS: 1 Semester Credit

2.       PREREQUISITES:           ENROLLED IN THE DENTAL HYGIENE PROGRAM,
                                                   BIO-201, BIO-202, and DEH-123

3.       RESOURCES NEEDED:

                TEXTS:                      Clark, Morris; and Brunick, Ann; "Handbook of Nitrous Oxide and 
                                                  Oxygen Sedation", 3rd Edition, Mosby Inc., 2008.

                SUPPLIES:                To be provided by the program

4.      COURSE
         DESCRIPTION:               Provides a working knowledge of the latest equipment and methods of
                                                  nitrous oxide/oxygen sedation administration in the dental office.

5.      COURSE GOAL:            This course is designed to provide a working knowledge of the latest
                                                 equipment and methods of nitrous oxide/oxygen sedation administration in
                                                 the dental office.

6.      COURSE
         OBJECTIVES:                 A detailed list of course objectives will be given out on the first day of class.

Special Remarks: Certain precautions are indicated when using Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen during pregnancy.
                               If you are pregnant or suspect you are pregnant, immediate notification must be given to 
                               the course instructor.

ATTENDANCE:      

Attendance is required in all dental hygiene classes (didactic, laboratory and clinic).  It is the student’s responsibility to arrive on time and be prepared for class.

 

The attendance policy of the Dental Hygiene Program will be the same as Pueblo Community Colleges' with the following additions:

 

§                Any absence must be reported to the program secretary by 8:00 a.m. Absences
    and tardies are tracked by the program secretary.

 

§                If any absence occurs during a scheduled test or examination, the student will
    receive an automatic 0. Only extenuating circumstances will be considered for
    make-up and must receive approval from the Department Chair.

 

§               Extended absences for emergency circumstances will be dealt with on an individual 
   basis.

 

§              More than two absences will result in the lowering of a full letter grade.

 

§             Three or more tardies are equal to one absence.

 

                  §  If 20 or more percent of a lecture or laboratory class is missed, the student will
                           receive a failing grade. 
 

 

                  §  Clinic time cannot be made up.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
The very nature of higher education requires that students adhere to accepted standards of academic integrity.
