4.         COURSE GOAL:      To demonstrate practical knowledge of radiographic principles, intra/oral techniques, exposure factors, processing, radiation safety and radiographic anatomy and common pathology; to apply lecture material to clinical performance, during which a student completes acceptable radiographic surveys on manikins and on patients.

 Special Remarks: 

Open lab times-Open lab times will be announced in lecture class.  Students need to make prior arrangements with their only their lab faculty for permission and needed film.  If needed, the lab instructor will develop a sign-up list for open lab spots.  

 

            The format of written evaluations will be primarily short answer and multiple‑choice.  Students will be held accountable for all material presented in class, in handouts, and in assigned readings.

  

            Tutoring may be available to students with unsuccessful progress in any DEH class.  Students must notify the instructor at first sign of difficulty, set up a meeting with the course responsible faculty and show that an obvious attempt has been made to maintain a passing grade. 

                        Example:

                        Proper note taking.

                        Answering objectives in writing.

                        Reading assignments before lecture.

                        Reading assignments after lecture

                        Putting in the necessary hours each night     

                  Attendance:    Attendance is expected in all classes and is required in all dental
                                          hygiene classes (didactic, 
laboratory and clinic).  It is the student’s
                                          responsibility to arrive on time and be prepared for 
class. 

                        The attendance policy of the Dental Hygiene Program will be the same as Pueblo Community Colleges’ with the following additions:

·        Any absence must be reported to the program secretary by 8:00 a.m.

·        If any absence occurs during a scheduled test or examination, the student will be required to complete the said exercise within one week of the original date.  The make-up test must be scheduled with the course instructor.    

·        Extended absences for whatever reason will be dealt with on an individual basis.

·        In the event of an absence, the student will be required to make up class time with an appropriate assignment as designated by the course faculty.   

 

Academic Integrity:

                                   

The very nature of higher education requires that students adhere to accepted standards of academic integrity.  Therefore, Pueblo Community College has adopted a policy of academic conduct as described in the Student Handbook.  Violation of academic integrity may be defined to include the following:  cheating, plagiarism, falsification and fabrication, abuse of academic materials, complicity in academic dishonesty, and personal misrepresentation.  It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of the behaviors that constitute academic dishonesty.  Sanctions for violating the standards of academic integrity may include warning, probation, suspension, and/or failure of the course or assignment at the discretion of the instructor.
