PALS Course Information
Pueblo Community College EMS Education Program provides both Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider courses, and Update Courses for current PALS providers. Classes are offered in a variety of formats including two-day intensive programs, evening programs, and short day offerings.
The PALS course is intended for those health care providers who are, or will be, working in settings that deal with acute pediatric emergencies. Students must be currently licensed/certified to provide invasive drug and electrical therapy within their respective health care organizations. Individuals who are not licensed/certified in advanced life support procedures may audit the course on a space available basis, but do not receive completion cards.
PALS Can Save a Life
This course is taught using "case based" educational concepts. Students are assigned to small groups with one instructor, and learn using actual patient care scenarios. All equipment used by the students is state-of-the-art, including 12 lead EKG capabilities. The focus of this course is teaching the appropriate treatment algorithms to deal with pediatric patients and emergencies normally associated with children.
It is strongly recommended that students enrolling in this course have either experience or formal training in basic EKG interpretation and cardiac pharmacology. Parkview offers both basic and advanced EKG courses on a regular basis through its Continuing Education program.
