Note: The new national standard of EMS does not include the Intermediate level of training. However, the State of Colorado will continue to train and certify EMT-Intermediates as a critical level of care provided to patients throughout the state. In support of this effort, PCC will continue to train EMT-Intermediates as long as there is a certification process available for them.
The EMT Intermediate 99 training level will increase your knowledge and skills in pre-hospital care. Subjects include anatomy/physiology, advanced airway management, pharmacology, medical, cardiac and trauma emergency care. During this course you will also receive Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training. Successful completion of this course allows you to apply for National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician examination and State of Colorado Certification as an EMT-I. Once certified, you can work as an EMT-I or use this training to prepare yourself for training as a Paramedic.
To enter this course, you must have a current Colorado EMT-Basic certification, have all current immunizations, and obtain department approval for enrollment. A background check and drug test are also required. If you wish to work in the field at this level, you should be able to meet the requirements of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Health Facilities and Emergency Medical Services Division EMT Functional Job Description.
