COURSE SYLLABUS

1. TITLE OF COURSE: DESIGN, LAYOUT, AND FABRICATION
  PREFIX/NUMBER: WEL 251 CREDIT HOURS: 4 CR.  (1L/4.5 LBV)

Welding Principles and Applications, Third Edition: Larry Jeffus
 

SUPPLIES:

Welding hood, cutting goggles, striker, gloves, leathers, 12 foot ruler.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Develops advanced welding and associated skills in the use of drawings and blueprints in planning.  Includes designing and layout projects.
5.

COURSE GOAL:

To master fabrication skills using drawing and blueprints in planning, designing and laying out projects.
6. COURSE OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the course, students will:
(A) Student will exhibit basic knowledge of operation methods of a layout and fabrication shop.
 
(B) Student will select different processes utilizing operator’s time and machines for maximum production.
 
(C) Student will understand methods of fabricating and holding parts to be welded.
(D) Student will apply the knowledge learned in blueprint reading to laboratory related experiences.
 
7. EVALUATION PROCEDURES:
Performance on assigned projects will be graded at the completion of each job on an individualized basis.

Special Remarks:

1.

Attendance - this course consists of 90 hours training (both lecture and lab).  Absenteeism of 20% (18 hours) can result in an official drop from this course.

2.

Unexcused Absence and Tardies - unexcused absences and tardies cannot be made up and can greatly affect your grade.  Any projects, quizzes, tests, or exams due in on the day of an unexcused absence will result in a 0 (zero) for that day.

3.

Excused Absence and Tardies - Excused absences and tardies can be made up and are encouraged to be.  Anytime a student elects to make up an excused absence or tardy, he/she may do so but must document this time and have an instructor present to initial it.  This includes students who have conflicting or rotating work schedules.  Students who miss class due to an excused absence or tardy are responsible for materials covered during their absence.  NO exceptions!

Cheating - students caught cheating on any projects, quizzes, tests, or exams will be given a 0 (zero) for that particular topic.

5.

Stealing - any student caught stealing any state owned property will be removed from the class roster and referred to local law enforcement agencies.

9. METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:
To be successful in this course, students are expected to participate in discussions, readings, in-class writing, and peer review activities. The instructor may assign point values to such activities.
10. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
The very nature of higher education requires that students adhere to accepted standards of academic integrity.
