COURSE SYLLABUS

1.	TITLE OF COURSE:	ADVANCED GAS TUNGSTEN ARC WELDING
	PREFIX/NUMBER:	WEL 224	CREDIT HOURS:	4 CR. (1L/4.5 LBV)
2.	PREREQUISITE:	WEL 102, WEL 103, and WEL 104

3.	RESOURCES NEEDED:
	TEXT:	Welding Processes and Practices; Koell Hoffer, Manz, Hornberger
	SUPPLIES:	Welding hood w/No. shaded lenses, welding gloves, pliers, wire brush, safety goggles, welding jacket, collet, collet body, cup 3/32 2% thoriated tungsten.
4.	COURSE DESCRIPTION:	Covers welding in all positions on carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum plate and carbon steel pipe with the GTAW process. Student should be familiar with basic metallurgy pertaining to the weld ability of metals, structural joints, and safety in the welding industry.
5.	COURSE GOAL:	This course is theory and practice in welding techniques using both the TIG and MIG welding process. An introduction to flux core arc welding and skills toward welding qualification are introduced.

6.	COURSE OBJECTIVES:
	By the end of the course, students will
	(A)	Exhibit manipulative skills using both GMAW and GTAW welding processes.
	(B)	Given practice material—weld together various projects as outlined in the text.
	(C)	Identify the use of various equipment used in the GMAW and GTAW welding processes.
	(D)	Describe the use and safe operation of equipment used in both the GMAW and GTAW welding processes.

7.	EVALUATION PROCEDURES:
	The student will be routinely evaluated on an individual basis by the instructor at the end of each completed project. Each project will be given a letter ranging from 0-100 percent.
	The student will be tested over both classroom lectures and textbook materials.

		0 to 59	F

Special Remarks:
1.	Attendance - this course consists of 90 hours training (both lecture and lab). Absenteeism of 20% (18 hours) can result in an official drop from this course.
2.	Unexcused Absence and Tardies - unexcused absences and tardies cannot be made up and can greatly affect your grade. Any projects, quizzes, tests, or exams due in on the day of an unexcused absence will result in a 0 (zero) for that day.
3.	Excused Absence and Tardies - Excused absences and tardies can be made up and are encouraged to be. Anytime a student elects to make up an excused absence or tardy, he/she may do so but must document this time and have an instructor present to initial it. This includes students who have conflicting or rotating work schedules. Students who miss class due to an excused absence or tardy are responsible for materials covered during their absence. NO exceptions!
4.	Cheating - students caught cheating on any projects, quizzes, tests, or exams will be given a 0 (zero) for that particular topic.
5.	Stealing - any student caught stealing any state owned property will be removed from the class roster and referred to local law enforcement agencies.

9.	METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:
	To be successful in this course, students are expected to participate in discussions, readings, in-class writing, and peer review activities. The instructor may assign point values to such activities.
10.	ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
