RESOURCES NEEDED: TEXT: Machine Tool Practices, Prentice Hall, 1998 Richard R. Kibbe, John E. Neely, Roland O. Meyer, and Warren T. White SUPPLIES: 4. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Introduces vertical milling machines. The operations and applications will consist of using the machine controls, speeds and feeds, spindles, arbors and adapters cutting tools, tool holders, conventional and climb milling applications simple indexing, fixture alignments, work holding methods. Students will become familiar with set-up applications considering offset boring operations, face milling, plain milling, and precision drilling applications. Students will be required to produce parts to a tolerance of +/- .004in. and perform competencies set by manufacturing standards. 5. COURSE GOAL: 6. COURSE OBJECTIVES: By the end of the course, students will: (A) Students will demonstrate milling machine safety (B) Identify cutting tools, along with the types of cutting tool holders (C) Perform common set-ups on the vertical milling machine (D) Use rotary tables and simple indexing devices for milling and drilling applications (E) Identify important components and controls on various types of milling machines (F) Use work-holding devices to set-up a horizontal & vertical milling machine (G) Use work-holding devices to set-up a horizontal & vertical milling machine 7. EVALUATION PROCEDURES: Grading ScaleRaw Score Range Letter Grade 90 to 100 A 80 to 89 B 70 to 79 C 60 to 69 D 0 to 59 F Special Remarks: 1.
