COURSE SYLLABUS

SUPPLIES:

1. Drawing Kit – same as ENT 131 (or AutoCAD system)
2. Six (6) “C” size sheets – vellum (with or without title block)
3. Houseplan template helpful, not required (1/4” = 1’0”)

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Students will produce a set of residential construction plans based on sketches produced and provided.  Students will study the current techniques for graphic representation of residential architectural plans.
5. COURSE GOAL:
Students will produce assigned architectural drawings for a residential building using current architectural drafting standards.
6. COURSE OBJECTIVES:
  A. Students will produce a floor plan of a residential building with dimensions, window and door schedules.
  B. Students will create supplemental floor-plans to include electrical, mechanical, and plumbing.
  C. Students will produce elevation drawings.
  D. Students will produce foundation plans and details.
  E. Students will create through section and typical wall section details.
  F. Students will create a plot plan.
  G. Students will demonstrate familiarity with residential construction terminology, materials and techniques.
7. EVALUATION PROCEDURES:
The student will be graded on his/her demonstrated skills at producing a set of residential plans (6 drawings).  Each drawing will be evaluated on a scale of 100.  After your drawings have been turned-in on time and graded, you may re-do/correct your errors and receive up to ½ the points lost on the first grading.
You will be given homework assignments from the workbook.  These must be turned in on time in order to receive full credit.  These assignments may not be done over to increase your grade.  You will also be given occasional quizzes on homework assignments, drawing assignments, and lecture material.
5% - The student’s grade will be based on the instructor’s evaluation of the student’s attendance pattern, demonstration of a professional attitude, and participation in class activities/discussions.

Quizzes and tests 15%
Attendance/Attitude   5%
In order to successfully complete this course, ALL drawing assignments must be completed to a minimum grade of 75%.
  During open lab time, students will have the opportunity to compare notes and discuss drawing projects with other students. Students who submit another’s drawings as his own will receive a 0 grade for that drawing.

Special Remarks:
1. Attendance:  College policy states that students may be dropped from enrollment when absent 20% of the scheduled class meetings.  If enrolled from the beginning of the term, 15 hours will usually constitute 20% of a four-credit semester course which meets five hours per week.  Reinstatement procedures are described in the PCC catalog.
2. Tardy Policy:  A student who is late three times (enters classroom after the instructor has taken roll) will be charged with one full absence unless the student can provide valid reasons for one or more of these tardies.
3. Assignments/Missed Exams:  It is the student's responsibility, whether present or absent, to obtain all material presented and to complete all course assignments.  If prior arrangements are made or extenuating circumstances exist, makeup of tests may be allowed.  Late homework papers will not be accepted unless those same extenuating circumstances exist.  Makeup of quizzes is to be at the instructor's discretion.

9. METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:
To be successful in this course, students are expected to participate in discussions, readings, in-class writing, and peer review activities. The instructor may assign point values to such activities.
10. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
