COURSE SYLLABUS

1. TITLE OF COURSE: Mechanical Drawing I

Technical Drawing, 9th Ed., Giesecke, Frederick, Alva Mitchell, Henry Cecil Spencer, Ivan Leroy Hill, John Thomas, Dygdon, and James E. Novak, 1991, MacMillan Publishing Co.
 

SUPPLIES:

Drafting pencils, lead, drafting paper, compass, tape, templates, triangles, eraser, sharpener (see equipment list)
4. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
5. COURSE GOAL:
  The student will use drafting machines, drafting equipment, basic drafting techniques, and be able to draw basic orthographic views, isometric views, section views, auxiliary views, and dimension basic mechanical parts.
6. COURSE OBJECTIVES:

(A)

After completion of the course student should be able to demonstrate the proper care and use of drafting equipment.

(B)

After completion of the course student should be able to demonstrate the ability to draw basic mechanical parts using orthographic projection.
(C) After completion of the course student should be able to demonstrate the ability to draw basic isometric drawings.
(D) After completion of the course student should be able to demonstrate the ability to draw basic section drawings.
(E) After completion of the course student should be able to demonstrate the ability to use basic dimensioning techniques.

(F)

After completion of the course student should be able to demonstrate the ability to produce auxiliary views of mechanical parts.

7. EVALUATION PROCEDURES:
  Seventy‑five percent (75%) of the student's grade will come from the grades he/she receives on drawings turned in that are complete and on time.
  Twenty percent (20%) of the grade will come from exams and 3 to 5 quizzes given by the instructor.
  Five percent (5%) of grade will come from regular attendance, a professional attitude and participation in class.
  At the completion of this course the student should be able to perform all basic drawing functions required for successful completion of the drafting program.  These competencies will be evidenced by the successful completion of 76% of the tasks in each unit.

The student may earn extra credit by doing extra projects after the required drawings are completed.

The student may earn only enough extra credit to raise his/her grade one "letter" grade.

8. COURSE OUTLINE
9. METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:
  To be successful in this course, students are expected to participate in discussions, readings, in-class writing, and peer review activities. The instructor may assign point values to such activities.
10. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
  The very nature of higher education requires that students adhere to accepted standards of academic integrity.
