COURSE SYLLABUS

1.	TITLE OF COURSE:	REFINISHING II
	PREFIX/NUMBER:	ACT 243	CREDIT HOURS:	2 CR. (1L/1.5 LBV)

	TEXT:	Motor Auto Body Repair by Robert Scharff
	SUPPLIES:	1 spiral notebook, 3 no. 2 pencils, 1 clipboard, work shoes, and basic hand tools
4.	COURSE DESCRIPTION:	In this advanced course students learn the necessary skills used to tint and blend panels working with the latest finishes and paints. Special coatings and procedures are covered in this course.
5.	COURSE GOAL:	This course is designed to teach the student the proper techniques needed to refinish a complete vehicle.

6.	COURSE OBJECTIVES:
	After completion of this course, the student should be able to:
	(A)	Identify the types of rigid, semi-rigid or flexible plastic parts to be refinished; determine the materials, preparation, and refinishing procedures.
	(B)	Refinish rigid, semi-rigid and flexible plastic parts.
	(C)	Clean, condition and refinish vinyl (e.g. upholstery, dashes, and tops).
	(D)	Apply multi-stage (tricoat) coats for panel blending or overall refinishing.
	(E)	Identify and mix paint using a formula.
	(F)	Identify poor hiding color; determine necessary action.
	(G)	Tint color using formula to achieve blendable match.
	(H)	Identify alternative color formula to achieve a blendable match.

7.	EVALUATION PROCEDURES:
	Each student enrolled in the Automotive Collision program will be graded as follows:
	Lab skills attitude
	1.	Lab work consists of:
		(A)	speed
		(B)	accuracy
		(C)	neatness and order
		(D)	care of tools
		(E)	attitude: student work habits, promptness, good attendance, project decision making. The ability to work without constant instruction. Responsibility to any given project or assignment. Laboratory projects will be evaluated on a weekly basis.

		Each hour of absence constitutes a deduction of one point from the total final grade. Tardiness will be counted in 15-minute increments. The student will be dropped when he/she misses over 12 hours.

Special Remarks:
1.	Regular attendance and class participation are of great importance for success in this Automotive Collision course. College attendance policy states that you may be dropped for absence of more than 20% of the scheduled class (12 hours).
2.	No make up time will be allowed without prior approval from the instructor. It is the student’s responsibility to schedule any make up time needed. Students are expected to spend at least 1 to 2 hours of study time outside of class for each hour you are scheduled in class.
3.	The PCC catalog for the year in which you started this program lists all academic policies, procedures, and requirements related to your enrollment and education. It is your responsibility to read, understand, and follow that catalog as it relates to you.

9.	METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:
	To be successful in this course, students are expected to participate in discussions, readings, in-class writing, and peer review activities. The instructor may assign point values to such activities.
10.	ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
	The very nature of higher education requires that students adhere to accepted standards of academic integrity.
