COURSE SYLLABUS

1.	TITLE OF COURSE:	AUTOMOTIVE GRAPHICS AND DESIGNS
	PREFIX/NUMBER:	ACT 161	CREDIT HOURS:	3 CR. (1L/3 LBV)

3.	RESOURCES NEEDED:
	TEXT:	Kustom Paint Secrets by Jon Kosmoskis, Wolfgang, Inc.
	SUPPLIES:	1 spiral notebook, 3 - no.2 pencils, 1 clipboard, work shoes, and basic hand tools
4.	COURSE DESCRIPTION:	This course provides instruction in the application of graphics and designs to an automotive finish. These designs include striping, flames, paint fades, and graphics, etc.

	After completion of this course, the student should be able to:
	(A)	identify various tapes and masks
	(B)	learn various layouts of patterns
	(C)	learn different painting sequences
	(D)	learn to identify different paints used

7.	EVALUATION PROCEDURES:
	Each student enrolled in the Automotive Collision program will be graded as follows:
	Lab skills attitude
	1.	Lab work consists of:
		(A)	speed
		(B)	accuracy
		(C)	neatness and order
		(D)	care of tools
		(E)	attitude: student work habits, promptness, good attendance, project decision making. The ability to work without constant instruction. Responsibility to any given project or assignment. Laboratory projects will be evaluated on a weekly basis.

		Each hour of absence constitutes a deduction of one point from the total final grade. Tardiness will be counted in 15-minute increments. The student will be dropped when he/she misses over 12 hours.

	II.	Layout of Patterns
		(A)	identify a sequence of patterns
		(B)	determine material
		(C)	various procedures of pattern layout and design
	III.	Sequences of Painting
		(A)	learn various painting patterns
		(B)	determine order of paint
		(C)	determine topcoat application
	IV.	Identify Various Paints
		(A)	identify pearl
		(B)	identify candy apple
		(C)	identify metal flakes

Special Remarks:
1.	Regular attendance and class participation are of great importance for success in this Automotive Collision course. College attendance policy states that you may be dropped for absence of more than 20% of the scheduled class (12 hours).
2.	No make up time will be allowed without prior approval from the instructor. It is the student’s responsibility to schedule any make up time needed. Students are expected to spend at least 1 to 2 hours of study time outside of class for each hour you are scheduled in class.
3.	The PCC catalog for the year in which you started this program lists all academic policies, procedures, and requirements related to your enrollment and education. It is your responsibility to read, understand, and follow that catalog as it relates to you.

9.	METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:
	To be successful in this course, students are expected to participate in discussions, readings, in-class writing, and peer review activities. The instructor may assign point values to such activities.
10.	ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
	The very nature of higher education requires that students adhere to accepted standards of academic integrity.
