COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Provides the knowledge needed for application and use of automotive paint systems.  Course includes locating color codes, mixing formulas, matching and selections of materials.  Proper paint gun use and adjustments is taught for the product being applied.  In addition, the student practices correct masking and detailing techniques.

COURSE GOAL:

 
6. COURSE OBJECTIVES:
  By the end of the course, students will:
  (A) Determine type and color of paint already on vehicle by manufacturer's vehicle information label.
  (B) Shake, stir, reduce, catalyze/activate, and strain paint according to manufacturer's procedures.
  (C) Apply finish using appropriate spray techniques (gun arc, gun angel, gun distance, gun speed, and spray pattern overlap) for the finish being applies.
  (D) Apply selected product on test and let-down panel in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations; check for color match.
  (E) Apply single stage topcoat for refinishing.
  (F) Apply basecoat/clear coat for panel blending or partial refinishing.
  (G) Apply basecoat/clear coat for overall refinishing.
  (H) Denib, buff, and polish finishes where necessary.

Each hour of absence constitutes a deduction of one point from the total final grade.  Tardiness will be counted in 15-minute increments.  The student will be dropped when he/she misses over 12 hours.

Special Remarks:

1.

Attendance:  College policy states that students may be dropped from enrollment when absent 20% of the scheduled class meetings.  If enrolled from the beginning of the term, 15 hours will usually constitute 20% of a four-credit semester course which meets five hours per week.  Reinstatement procedures are described in the PCC catalog.

Tardy Policy:  A student who is late three times (enters classroom after the instructor has taken roll) will be charged with one full absence unless the student can provide valid reasons for one or more of these tardies.

3.

Assignments/Missed Exams:  It is the student's responsibility, whether present or absent, to obtain all material presented and to complete all course assignments.  If prior arrangements are made or extenuating circumstances exist, makeup of tests may be allowed.  Late homework papers will not be accepted unless those same extenuating circumstances exist.  Makeup of quizzes is to be at the instructor's discretion.

9. METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:
  To be successful in this course, students are expected to participate in discussions, readings, in-class writing, and peer review activities. The instructor may assign point values to such activities.
10. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
