COURSE OBJECTIVES: |

By the end of the course, students will: |

(A) |
The student will have an understanding of safety rules as it pertains to handling firearms in all environments. The student will know the 4 rules of firearm safety. An understanding of all safety features on firearms and how to make the weapon safe at home as well as on duty. |

(B) |
The student will explain various firearms equipment and alternatives. The student will demonstrate care and cleaning of weapons to include nomenclature, maintenance of weapon and ammunition and field stripping. |

(C) |
The student will demonstrate the basic techniques of marksmanship and shooting using a handgun that will include but not be limited to stance, grip, sight picture, trigger manipulation, breath control, recovery and presentation. |

(D) |
The student will demonstrate correct loading/reloading and unloading which includes ammunition management, weapon status and malfunctions. |

(E) |
The student will demonstrate shooting positions, tactics and shooting under unusual conditions including but not limited to shot placement, cover/concealment, positional shooting, movement shooting, multiple targets, close combat, one hand shooting and reloading and long range shooting. |

(F) |
The student will demonstrate techniques and tactics used in dim light shooting such as, non-flashlight techniques, cover/concealment , flashlight techniques and reloading. |

(G) |
The student will qualify with a score of 70% or higher utilizing the P.O.S.T. approved handgun tactical course. |
