1.  TITLE OF COURSE:                     College 101:  The Student Experience

4.  COURSE  DESCRIPTION:          

Introduces students to college culture and prepares them for the challenges they will face in higher education.  Through a series of interactive seminars, students discover learning in multicultural environment and use community resources to attain education and career goals.

 

 

 

5. COURSE OBJECTIVES:

           

            By the end of the course, students will be able to:

:

(A)        Become active participants in the college community and transition successfully into college.

(B)        Locate learner support programs; identify the services offered and how to access them.

(C)        Learn and utilize strategies to improve academic success.

(D)        Identify areas of academic interest and career goals to make an educational plan.

(E)         Write a personal statement.

Special Remarks:

 

  1. College policy states that a student may be dropped from enrollment by the instructor when s/he has been absent 20% of the class meetings.  If enrolled from the beginning of the term, 6 hours will usually constitute 20% of a two-credit-semester course.  Reinstatement procedures are described in the Pueblo Community College catalog.

 

 

  1. Tardy Policy:  As a courtesy to the students, the instructor will start class on time.  As a courtesy to the instructor and to the class, students are expected to be on time.

 

 

  1. Assignments:  The instructor will provide an assignment calendar.  It is the student’s responsibility, whether present or absent, to obtain all material presented and to complete all course assignments. 

 

 

  1. Do not bring children or other guests with you to class.

 

 

  1. Use of Electronics in the Classroom:   Computers and other electronic devices may be used in the classroom only for academic purposes as directed by the instructor.  Texting and/or accessing personal e-mail and social networking sites such as Facebook are not allowed.  All cell phones must be turned off during class.  If a student uses an unapproved electronic device during a test or class activity, the student will receive no credit for the activity or test, may be asked to leave the classroom, and/or may fail the course for cheating.

8. METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:

To be successful in this course, students are expected to participate in discussions and activities.  Because the class is experiential, attendance is extremely important.

 

9. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:

The very nature of higher education requires that students adhere to accepted standards of academic integrity.  Therefore, Pueblo Community College has adopted a policy of academic conduct as described in the Student Handbook.  Violation of academic integrity may be defined to include the following:  cheating, plagiarism, falsification and fabrication, abuse of academic materials, complicity in academic dishonesty, and personal misrepresentation.  It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of the behaviors that constitute academic dishonesty.  Sanctions for violating the standards of academic integrity may include warning, probation, suspension, and/or failure of the course or assignment at the discretion of the instructor.
