COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course continues the study of accounting principles as they apply to partnerships and corporations. Major content includes: issuance of stocks and bonds, accounting for investments; cash flow statements, financial analysis, budgeting, and cost and managerial accounting.

COURSE GOAL:

To develop a general understanding of financial reports and analyses and to provide a strong foundation for future courses in business, accounting, and finance.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

The student should be able to:

(A)

Understand the organization and operation of partnerships and corporations.

(B)

Understand the reporting of corporate income and retained earnings.

(C)

Understand the process of notes and bond issuance and be able to account for them.

(D)

Interpret and create Statement of Cash Flows.

(E)

Classify and account for stock investments, consolidations, and internal operations.

(F)

Analyze financial statements.

(G)

Account for manufacturing companies.

(H)

Differentiate between and use job order and process cost accounting systems.

(I)

Account for segments and departments and understand responsibility accounting.

(J)

Use Cost-Volume-Profit analysis.

(K)

Prepare and use a master budget.

(L)

Prepare flexible budgets using standard costs.

(M)

Understand capital budgeting and managerial decision making.

Special Remarks:

1.

Attendance:  College policy states that students may be dropped from enrollment when absent 20% of the scheduled class meetings.  If enrolled from the beginning of the term, 9 hours will usually constitute 20% of a three-credit semester course.  Reinstatement procedures are described in the PCC catalog.

Tardy Policy:  A student who is late three times (enters classroom after the instructor has taken roll) will be charged with one full absence unless the student can provide valid reasons for one or more of these tardies.

Assignments/Missed Exams:  It is the student's responsibility, whether present or absent, to obtain all material presented and to complete all course assignments.  If prior arrangements are made or extenuating circumstances exist, makeup of tests will be allowed.  Late homework papers will be accepted with a 10% reduction in grade for each day late.  Quizzes will not be made up.

10. METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:
To be successful in this course, students are expected to participate in discussions, readings, in-class writing, and peer review activities. The instructor may assign point values to such activities.
11. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:

Sanctions for violating the standards of academic integrity may include warning, probation, suspension, and/or failure of the course or assignment at the discretion of the instructor.
