4. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Examines the philosophies of life and death, emphasizing dying, death, mourning, and the consideration of one’s own death.
5. COURSE GOAL:
The student will examine the major social, cultural, medical and ethical questions and problems related to death in contemporary society.
6. COURSE OBJECTIVES:
I. The student will examine and recognize various historical views of death and dying.
II. The student will compare and evaluate cultural perspectives on death and dying.
III. The student will examine and explain psychological and developmental aspects of death and dying.
IV. The student will explore medical implications of the dying process.
V. The student will recognize economic factors affecting the process of dying

8. METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:
To be successful in this course, students are expected to participate in discussions, readings, in-class writing, and peer review activities. The instructor may assign point values to such activities.
