4. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Focuses on effective techniques for parenting children, with emphasis on setting expectations, consideration of individual differences, satisfactory communication, and effective parent-child relationships.
5. COURSE GOAL:
Students will be able to identify developmental changes in children and corresponding ways to set expectations, consider individual differences, and communicate effectively in parent-child relationships.
6. COURSE OBJECTIVES:
I. Describe specific behaviors supporting the democratic/authoritative approach to parenting.
II. List four goals of children’s behavior.
III. Discuss strategies for reducing children’s misbehaviors.
IV. Identify strategies to increase children’s positive behaviors.
V. Use active listening statements in role play situations.
VI. Develop I-Messages to initiate discussions on specific problems.
VII. Identify natural/ logical consequences to deal with specific discipline situations.
VIII. Use problem solving model in role play situations.

8. METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:
To be successful in this course, students are expected to participate in discussions, readings, in-class writing, and peer review activities. The instructor may assign point values to such activities.
9. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
The very nature of higher education requires that students adhere to accepted standards of academic integrity.
