COURSE DESCRIPTION:

An introduction to library organization.  How to use Dewey and Sears subject headings.  Elements of cataloging, practice in the use of the Dewey Decimal classification system.  Use of cutter tables and subject classification.  Basic philosophy, procedures, tools, and techniques for library routines are emphasized.

The student will learn to assign classification numbers to all types of library materials.

The student will learn to do descriptive cataloging of all types of library materials.

The student will learn to determine subject headings for all types of library materials.

The student will become familiar with the MARC record format.

  8. MAKE UP POLICY:  All assignments are due at midnight of the due date stated on the calendar. As dates may change, it is imperative that students refer to the calendar and the announcements regularly. If you are unable to make a deadline due to illness or another problem, you are expected to make arrangements with the instructor IN ADVANCE. Late Quiz assignments will lose 5 points per day. Late Homework assignments will lose 1 point per day.
