COURSE SYLLABUS
1. TITLE OF COURSE: CONVERSATIONAL ASL
PREFIX/NUMBER: ASL 135 CREDIT HOURS: 2
2. PREREQUISITES: ASL 101 & 102 (or instructor permission)
3. RESOURCES NEEDED: Check with Instructor.
4. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Provides the student an extended opportunity to develop a strong grasp of American Sign Language (ASL), as well as the cultural features of the language.
5. COURSE COMPETENCIES:
a. Develop expressive and conversational skills.
b. Understand basic ASL grammar.
c. Maintain skill and fluency in ASL.
d. Understand the number rules.

Special Remarks:
A. Attendance: College policy states that students may be dropped from enrollment when absent 20% of the scheduled class meetings. If a student is absent for 20% of the scheduled class time, the instructor may initiate withdraw procedures.
B. Tardy Policy: A student who is late three times (enters the classroom after the instructor has taken roll) will be charged with one full absence unless the student can provide valid reasons for one or more of these tardies.
C. Assignments/Missed Exams: It is the student’s responsibility, whether present or absent, to obtain all material presented and to complete all course assignments and examinations.

8. METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:
A. Students will not use their voices during class in order to maintain a signing environment.
B. Group work and class participation is encouraged.
C. Individual and supplemental work will be encouraged. Use of Videos, CDs, and guest speakers will be added as enrichment acitivities.
D. Students will give a final presentation consisting of more complex sentences, such as those found in stories, poems, and songs.
9. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
The very nature of higher education requires that students adhere to accepted standards of academic integrity. Therefore, Pueblo Community College has adopted a policy of academic conduct as described in the Student Handbook. Violation of academic integrity may be defined to include the following: cheating, plagiarism, falsification and fabrication, abuse of academic materials, complicity in academic dishonesty, and personal misrepresentation. It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of the behaviors that constitute academic dishonesty. Sanctions for violating the standards of academic integrity may include warning, probation, suspension, and/or failure of the course or assignment at the discretion of the instructor.
