COURSE GOAL: |
Emphasis will be on the development of children, prenatal through age eight. Theories of child development will be explored. The impact of genetics, heredity, environment and appropriate practices will be studied over this age span. |

COURSE OBJECTIVES: |

Unit I The student will learn about the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of young children from pre-natal through age eight. |

Identify the developmental milestones for infants, toddlers, preschool and school-age children. |

Discriminate between children who are at risk, delayed or show characteristics of exceptional development |

(C) |
The student will be able to explain current theories of child development and compare them to ideas from past history. |

The student will discuss the influences of biological and environmental factors on child development. |

The student will relate information about child development to developmentally appropriate practices in a licensed childcare setting. |
