COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course covers basic acting techniques and approaches including scene study, improvisation, and script analysis. It includes practical application through classroom performance.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

By the end of the course, students will

(A)

Translate awareness of self, others, and life into the language of the theatre.

(B)

Learn about self and relationships with others.

(C)

Sharpen awareness of life through theatre means.

(D)

Develop an appreciation for the practice and art of acting.

EVALUATION PROCEDURES:

The emphasis of an Acting class is found in the day to day performance work. Students are required to participate in all classroom exercises on a continual and effective basis.

Play reviews of 2 performances

Extra credit: Audition in and/or perform in an outside production during the semester.

Special Remarks:

1.

Attendance: College policy states that students may be dropped from enrollment when absent 20% of the scheduled class meetings. If enrolled from the beginning of the term, 15 hours will usually constitute 20% of a four-credit semester course which meets five hours per week. Reinstatement procedures are described in the PCC catalog.

2.

Acting is a discipline. There will be no excused absences.

3.

If an emergency arises, please telephone me prior to the beginning of class or call when it is convenient.

4.

Your grade will be penalized a certain percentage to be determined by the instructor for excessive absences or tardies.

5.

Students will be dropped when they have missed 20% of total class hours, 6 classes, unless arrangements have been made.

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:

 

To be successful in this course, students are expected to participate in discussions, readings, in-class writing, and peer review activities. The instructor may assign point values to such activities.

The very nature of higher education requires that students adhere to accepted standards of academic integrity.
